A Soft Computing Framework for Dynamic Curriculum Design in Competency-Based Education

Competency-based education requires dynamic curriculum sequencing tailored to each learner’s competence profile. We propose a hybrid soft computing framework integrating fuzzy competence evaluation, neural sequencing of units, and genetic optimization for pathway adaptation. Deployed with 220 undergraduate engineering students, our framework improved competency mastery rate (+18%), reduced average time-to-master unit by 22%, and increased learner satisfaction (rating 4.6/5). Fuzzy interpretability, neural adaptability, and genetic optimization synergize to support scalable, responsive curriculum design.
